A showcase of nature's colours

From the blood red of rubies to the pastel blue of aquamarines, coloured gemstones represent a sparkling show of nature's palette of colours.

The June Hong Kong Jewellery & Watch Fair will feature about 240 gemstone exhibitors. Traditional precious stones such as sapphires, rubies and emeralds have plenty of competition from other gemstones.

Art of stones

Florals are all the rage this spring (just look at Gucci's collection), and Carat, known for its high-end simulated gemstones, has caught onto the trend. The Flower Power line consists of fancy coloured stones, in pink sapphire, blue topaz, chocolate and aquamarine colours, set in gold in a range of designs that includes earrings, necklaces and rings.

French jeweller Mauboussin, known for its use of colourful gemstones, has launched the artistic Femmes Subtile and Chance of Love collections for autumn. The Femmes Subtile line includes a range of rings that feature classic shapes such as hearts, moons, stars and the brand's signature four-leaf clover.

Topaz House unstoppable in track and field events

Topaz House grabbed the overall championship after winning both the girls' and boys' team events at the 17th annual athletics meet of Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College.

There were 783 students participating in this year's sports day at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground, and seven records were broken.
