Towngas to spin-off business 'when time is ripe': CEO Peter Wong

Wong's comments follow an announcement last month by Li Ka-shing-controlled utility Power Asset Holdings that will spin-off its local electricity distributor, Hong Kong Electric. Li is reportedly seeking to raise as much as US$5 billion. Wong said Towngas was in no hurry to spin off its division.

Environment minister defends Towngas' 4.6pc rise in gas fees

Environment minister Wong Kam-sing has defended as "reasonable" a planned increase in gas charges by the city's sole piped-gas distributor. Hong Kong and China Gas Co, or Towngas, a listed firm controlled by property giant Henderson, said it would raise its standard gas charge by 4.6 per cent, or 1 HK cent, from April. The per unit gas charge, excluding fuel costs, will be 22.85 cents.

Towngas to gain HK$2b in swap deal

Hong Kong and China Gas (Towngas) will gain a windfall of up to HK$2 billion next year from its deal to swap 10 mainland piped gas projects for a controlling stake in smaller mainland rival Panva Gas Holdings, according to analysts.

Gas pipe inspections reveal 51 leaks

Updated at 6.14pm: A recent inspection of gas pipelines across Hong Kong has found 51 leaks in pipes due to corrosion, the Legislative Council heard on Wednesday.
