Rising demand for smart TVs sees TPV raise targets

TPV Technology, the world's largest contract producer of computer monitors, is aiming to produce 18 million liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions this year as demand for smart TV and high-definition large-sized TVs improves.

Philips keeps options open over TV venture

Royal Philips Electronics, which yesterday announced plans to cut 4,500 jobs worldwide as profits fell last quarter, may pursue other options if no deal is reached to sell the majority of its television business to Hong Kong-listed TPV Technology.

Great Wall shares climb on TPV stake purchase

Shares in computer parts maker Great Wall Technology surged by as much as 10.29 per cent yesterday after the company said it would buy 10.27 per cent of monitor maker TPV Technology for HK$1.14 billion.

The shares, which were suspended last Friday, rose to as high as HK$3.86 in the morning when trading resumed yesterday, but closed 2.86 per cent lower at HK$3.40.

TPV revenue hurt by falling display prices

The falling price of flat-panel displays has cut into first-quarter revenue at Taiwanese producer TPV Technology, whose profits fell short of expectations set by analysts at JP Morgan, the company said yesterday.

Profits at the Hong Kong-listed firm, however, exceeded the forecasts of other analysts.
