Traffic officers have been told to take their jackets off when not riding their motorcycles and to drink more water after complaints that new jackets - introduced two months ago to provide better protection - are stiflingly hot.

Traffic officers have been told to take their jackets off when not riding their motorcycles and to drink more water after complaints that new jackets - introduced two months ago to provide better protection - are stiflingly hot. The police force was also looking for more suitable jacket material, Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee Siu-kwong said yesterday.

Six caught on bus joyride

SIX youths aged between 13 and 19 were arrested early yesterday morning for taking a double-decker bus from outside Ocean Park.

Traffic police intercepted the bus, which was being driven by a 16-year-old boy, in Stubbs Road, and detained the joyriders.

TRAFFIC police warned drivers and owners they face prosecution for overloaded vehicles. A police spokesman said first offenders were liable to a maximum fine of $5,000 and three months' jail, with subsequent offenders facing a maximum fine of $10,000 and six months' jail.
