At least six killed, dozens injured in France train crash

A train carrying hundreds of passengers derailed and crashed into a station outside Paris on Friday on the eve of a major holiday weekend. At least six people were killed and dozens were injured, including nine in critical condition, the Interior Ministry said.

The scene on Tuesday after a freight train crashed into a rubbish truck, derailed and then caught fire in a suburb of the US city of Baltimore. The crash set off an explosion that shook homes 800 metres away and sent an enormous plume of smoke in the sky.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs the Metro-North service, said a train bound from New York to New Haven derailed about 6.10pm local time near a highway overpass in Bridgeport.
