The reclassified griffin showed plenty of promise last season, notably on his final start when chasing home Red Diamond.

Moore puts nose in front

FOUR-TIME champion John Moore surged to the front in the race for this season's training honours with a 420-1 treble at Sha Tin yesterday.

Moore, who missed the meeting as he scoured the Sydney Easter sales for new blood, scored with Wang Tak Supreme in the second, Magnum Thirtythree in the fourth and Happy Occasions in the last.

Treble proves potent tonic as Cruz recaptures glory days

LOCAL hero Tony Cruz sparkled as of old at Sha Tin last night with a 224-1 treble spearheaded by Survey King's triumph in the feature $1.25 million Piaget Gold Cup.

Cruz opened his account with a smooth success on Long March who gave Peter Tse Yan-sid a welcome change of fortune in the second event. Tse has now trained four winners this season.

Treble puts Hill well in touch with rival Moore

A SUPERB treble from David Hill, a double from Ivan Allan and a one vital winner from Lawrie Fownes has ensured that the trainers' championship should go all the way to the final race on June 13.

Defending champion John Moore gained a late winner and now has a two-winner cushion over Hill - widely seen as his most dangerous adversary - with Fownes one behind.
