First lady Peng Liyuan drums up more fans with winning way in Trinidad

After a steel band played the patriotic Chinese songs In the Fields of Hope and My Wonderful Hometown, two of Peng's signature songs, the first lady walked over to the band and played along with them on one of their steel drums.

Xi Jinping plans to step up energy links with Trinidad and Tobago

Calling for a joint effort to advance ties, Xi said he saw great potential for further co-operation with Trinidad and Tobago, one of the wealthiest countries in the Caribbean, which has large reserves of oil and gas.

Xi Jinping arrives in Trinidad to boost Caribbean trade with China

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in oil-rich Trinidad and Tobago late on Friday for the first leg of a Latin America and Caribbean tour aiming to strengthen Beijing’s trade ties in the region.

Xi kicked off his trip in this tiny English-speaking country off Venezuela before heading to Costa Rica and Mexico, ahead of a June 7-8 summit with US President Barack Obama.
