Man abandons father

When 75-year-old Tai Wai resident Tse Kam-wo found out he had cataracts, his son told him to go to Guangzhou for surgery. But when they arrived, his son said they didn't have enough money to pay for the operation. Tse only had HK$5,000. His son said he needed HK$150,000.

Ricacorp records rising sales in West Kowloon

Estate agent Ricacorp saw a higher-than-average number of sales in West Kowloon last month. Senior manger Thomas Tse said the company completed 81 transactions.

'April has been a good month in terms of the number of sales,' he said. 'On average, we have about 50 transactions in a month.' He added that prices had risen during April.

21-year-old jailed for five years for rape

Updated at 6.00pm: A 21-year-old student has been jailed for five years for raping a waitress at a guesthouse last year, Apple Daily reported on Tuesday.

Dominic Tse Hoi-pan was found guilty of rape by a six-to-one majority verdict by jurors at the Court of First Instance on Monday, the newspaper reported.

singer KAY TSE On-kay is taking to the stage with FM Theatre Power's latest drama production Godsinger.

Tse plays the leading role in the drama.

The drama, written by director and performer Banky Yeung Ping-kei, is inspired by one of the stories of Orpheus.

Orpheus was one of the most famous musicians and poets in Greek mythology.

Weak pupils were kept out of competency test

The Examination Authority is investigating a primary school for withholding pupils with poor academic results from taking an assessment test.

Speaking on RTHK radio last night, principal Tse Woon-yam of the Islamic Primary School in Tuen Mun admitted 21 primary pupils had been taken to the library instead of taking the Basic Competency Assessment (BCA) on July 4 and 5.

Lecturer arrested over alleged indecent assault

A university lecturer has been arrested in connection with an alleged indecent assault of his domestic helper after surrendering himself to police yesterday. The 49-year-old man, surnamed Tse, was released on bail of $2,000. Police launched a search for him after his Filipino maid, aged 22, claimed she had been attacked by him.

Macau suspends jockeys

The Macau Jockey Club has suspended former Hong Kong jockeys Rambo Tse Wai-ho and Peter W. L. Ho following a visit to Taipa racecourse by ICAC officers.

Both Tse and Ho had rides in the two races alleged by the ICAC to have been fixed at Sha Tin in March and April 1996. All other riders involved have been arrested or questioned by the ICAC.

Task group targets English language

A special task group will be set up to monitor English standards, the head of the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) has announced.

Dr Daniel Tse Chi-wai said SCOLAR would keep a close eye on English skills during the change of medium of instruction in SAR schools.
