Shop workers' raid ordeal

Two men burst into a bakery in Ko Tan Street on Tsing Yi Island, tied and blindfolded two women employees and escaped with $2,000 last night. The victims were about to shut the back door of their shop when the men rushed in.

Girl assaulted

A schoolgirl, 12, was punched in the face and indecently assaulted by a man at Cheung On Estate, Tsing Yi Island. She suffered a bleeding nose and injuries to her legs and was treated at Princess Margaret Hospital.

T.S. Wong lands contract

China Resources Enterprise said its 55 per cent-owned Harvest Fair Investment had awarded a $695.7 million construction contract to T.S. Wong & Co. The contract refers to a residential development in Nga Ying Chau on Tsing Yi Island, comprising 10 towers with a gross floor area of 225 million square feet.

Harbour collision

A double-decker ferry carrying 400 workers from Chek Lap Kok to Central was involved in a collision with a Chinese cargo vessel off Tsing Yi Island last night. Both vessels were slightly damaged and two people taken to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment.

Workers hurt

TWO Tsing Ma Bridge workers were taken to hospital yesterday after separate accidents. A Nepalese man working on Tsing Yi island was in fair condition, while a Hong Kong man working at Yam O, Lantau, was 'ill'.

Four held on girl's killing

FOUR men have been arrested in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Ho Wing-sze, whose semi-naked body was found in a container yard on Tsing Yi Island in November 1994.

Detectives were hunting other suspects. Wing-sze's body was found on November 14 in Sai Cho Wan. She had been run over or dragged along by a vehicle.

Cars seized

POLICE seized six new cars and 250 karaoke machines, worth a total of $6 million, during a search aboard a mainland cargo boat off Tsing Yi Island. Six mainland crewmen and three Hong Kong men were arrested.

Police recover 12 stolen cars

POLICE raided a mainland-bound ship docked at Kwun Tong Cargo Handling Basin and recovered 12 stolen cars, including seven BMWs.

A man was later arrested at a house on Tsing Yi Island in connection with the raid on Friday.

AN armed gang believed to have been planning a robbery of a company in Central before the Lunar New Year was arrested yesterday.

Two men and a woman were last night being questioned by detectives.

A Canadian-made semi-automatic pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition, a stun gun and a fake pistol were seized from a flat in Ping Ha Road, Yuen Long.

Couple arrested

A YOUTH and a teenage girl were arrested yesterday after snatching a purse from a woman on the fourth floor of Hong Tai House, Tsing Yi Island. Police recovered the purse, containing $500 and personal items, after arresting a 15-year-old boy his 13-year-old accomplice.

Gambling raid

POLICE seized $24,000 in cash and betting chips with a face value of $420,000 during a gambling raid on Tsing Yi Island yesterday. Twenty-three men and one woman were arrested during the 2.15 am raid on ground floor premises at Yim Tin Kwok village. All have been detained for questioning.

Hoi Shing wins jobs

HOI Shing Construction has been awarded two public-sector contracts together worth $61 million from the Territory Development Department.

The larger contract, worth $43 million, is for the construction of two open space areas on Tsing Yi island in connection with the proposed Tsing Yi Town Park.

Cars recovered

TWO luxury cars were recovered on Tsing Yi Island. Several men seen on the shore jumped into speedboats and escaped as police moved in. A BMW was left dangling in the air from a stolen crane lorry and a Mercedes Benz was parked nearby.
