A suspected burglar tried to snatch a police revolver in an ambulance while being escorted by two officers from Tsing Yi police station to Yan Chai Hospital for a medical check-up.

A suspected burglar tried to snatch a police revolver in an ambulance while being escorted by two officers from Tsing Yi police station to Yan Chai Hospital for a medical check-up. The 25-year-old suspect, who was handcuffed, put up a struggle and tried to snatch one of the officer's guns in Sha Tsui Road near the junction of Ham Tin Street, Tsuen Wan, at about 10.30am.

Burglar's gold raid on police

A burglar who broke into police married quarters threatened a sergeant and his wife with a knife before fleeing with gold ornaments and cash worth $9,500.

The man, who spoke Putonghua, climbed through a window into the kitchen of the fourth-floor flat in Block B of Tsing Yi police married quarters at about 1.30am yesterday.

Hoard claimed

A STACK of foreign currencies worth about $130,000 which has been gathering dust in Tsing Yi police station will be claimed today. Police would only reveal the owner was a man, 49, who was able to describe the hoard.

Gang caught

TSING YI police have arrested three youths who are believed to have committed at least six robberies in Cheung Hong Estate over the past few months. The three were caught after police launched a special operation following an upsurge of robberies in the area.

Police fail confidence poll

KWAI Chung and Tsing Yi police failed to win the confidence of the public in a survey on their performance.

Respondents to a study conducted by the Kwai Tsing branch of the United Democrats gave them only 49 marks out of 100.

The survey, which covered 320 residents, asked them to assess the performance of local police by giving them marks.
