'Wait and see' over illegal structures

The government's campaign calling for New Territories' villagers to report unauthorised structures has stalled in the face of renewed talks with rural representatives.

The location of the shopping mall Citywalk featured in the cover story, 'Into the Depths of the Sea' on August 1 was incorrectly identified. It should have been Tsuen Wan, not Tuen Mun.

If you thought rush-hour crowds were the over-riding inconvenience of travelling on the MTR, think again. Noise annoys - at least it does on the system's ageing Tsuen Wan line.

More graffiti supporting Ai Weiwei

More graffiti was found in Tsuen Wan yesterday as supporters of detained mainland artist Ai Weiwei continue to call for his release. Paint graffiti was discovered near an exit at Tsuen Wan West MTR station, on a flyover near Tsuen Wan Town Hall, at Tso Kung Square, on a flyover near the Fou Wah Centre and at other locations. Police are treating the incidents as criminal damage.

Boy, 15, charged with Tsuen Wan murders

A 15-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of killing his mother and younger sister was charged with two counts of murder yesterday. He will appear in Tsuen Wan Juvenile Court today. The Form Three student was carrying a rucksack containing a bloodstained chopper and glove when he was arrested in the Tsuen Wan Riviera Park on Thursday.

Stall damaged in arson attack

A tin-sheet stall that sold incense and paper offerings at Chuk Lam Sim Monastery was damaged in an arson attack in Fu Yung Shan Road, Tsuen Wan, at about 2am. Firemen doused the flames and no one was injured. Crime squad officers from Tsuen Wan police station are investigating.

Man denies raping woman he met online

An unemployed man pleaded not guilty yesterday when he went on trial in the Court of First Instance for allegedly raping a woman at his Tsuen Wan home last July. Yau Tat-hang, 22, allegedly forced the woman, 18 at the time, into sex at his eighth-floor flat in the Tsuen Wan Centre on July 13 last year. Yau met the woman in person after they had been playing online games.

Woman held after weight thrown

A 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of throwing a 2.2kg weightlifting plate off the second floor inside a shopping centre in Tsuen Wan. Initial investigation showed the woman, believed to be mentally retarded, threw the steel disc from a second-floor fitness centre in Concord Square in Chuen Lung Street at about 2pm, police said.

Broken water pipes force lane closures

Two broken water pipes under Sai Lau Kok Road near Tsuen Fung Centre forced one lane of the road to be closed to traffic in Tsuen Wan yesterday. A potable-water pipe and another for flushing water burst at about 7am. In a separate incident, the slip road into Taikoo Shing Road was closed to all traffic because of a broken water pipe at 2pm.

Eight hurt as truck hits minibus in Tsuen Wan

Eight people were hurt when a truck hit a minibus in Tsuen Wan yesterday. The packed green 96B was heading along Sha Tsui Road towards Castle Peak Road at 5.30pm. The impact, which knocked out its windscreen, pushed the minibus on to a pavement, where it slid against a wall. Four males and four females, including the drivers, both men, were slightly hurt.

Man injured as bus window shatters

A 58-year-old man suffered minor injuries when a window on the left lower deck of a KMB Route 38A double-decker broke and showered passengers with glass on Ma Tau Pa Road, Tsuen Wan, at about midday yesterday. He was taken to Yan Chai Hospital.

Wild boar pulled from drain

A wild boar weighing 91kg was found trapped in a storm drain at Fu Yung Shan near the Tsuen Kam Interchange road in Tsuen Wan at 9am yesterday. A passer-by alerted police. Firefighters and Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department staff anaesthetised the boar before it was lifted out. It was not known where the animal was taken.

There are more than enough shopping malls but relatively few exhibition spaces in Hong Kong.

Woman trapped under minibus

A minibus driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a 62-year-old woman was hit on Hoi Pa Street, Tsuen Wan, at about 3.30pm yesterday. The woman was trapped under the minibus and had to be freed by firemen. She was taken unconscious to Princess Margaret Hospital. The driver, 59, was later released on bail.
