The Tsuen Wan waterfront land sale triggered a jump in the number of transactions in Luk Yeung Sun Chuen.

Home sales volumes in Tsuen Wan were boosted last week by bargain hunters betting that the high price paid for a waterfront site in the area would drive flat values higher.

Home sales in the secondary market picked up modestly last week as owners cut prices to speed up sales.

Midland Realty said 74 sales were concluded at 35 selected housing estates during the week from January 9 to 15, up from 67 the previous week.

Goodwill offer keeps west rail busy

West Rail trains were unusually crowded yesterday as 100,000 passengers passed turnstiles in the morning to enjoy the four hours of free rides offered by the KCRC as a gesture of goodwill after last week's train fire.

Passenger turnover between 9am and 1pm reached 100,000, about 21/2 times the usual patronage during that period on a weekday.

Escaping II sparks search

An illegal immigrant sparked a three-hour search involving more than 50 officers after he jumped into the sea to escape arrest in Tsuen Wan after being spotted behind a beach house below Castle Peak Road, Yau Kom Tau.
