Body found in harbour

Police are trying to identify a woman whose body was found floating off Tsim Sha Tsui East at 10.30am. The woman was thin, between 55 and 60, and 1.52 metres tall. She was wearing a grey T-shirt and green trousers. Police said initial investigations had found nothing suspicious.

38 IIs arrested in club

Thirty-eigth mainland women were held for questioning after police and immigration officers arrested them in a nightclub in Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East, during an anti-vice operation. The group, including two-way permit and Chinese passport holders, was arrested for breaching conditions of stay.

100 armed police seal off village in kidnap gang hunt

More than 100 armed police sealed off a Yuen Long village yesterday in the search for a kidnap gang that allegedly abducted a businessman and demanded a $5 million ransom.

Three suspected kidnappers were arrested after the victim, who has businesses in Hong Kong, Macau and Guangzhou, was released when the ransom money was handed over.

Tragic call identifies body

Police identified the body of a woman found floating off Tsim Sha Tsui East yesterday by calling her family from a mobile phone she was carrying.

The woman, 31, whose body was identified by her father and sister, was carrying no identification. When police discovered her phone still worked, they called her parents using numbers in its memory.

Sino Group and Chinachem Group are leading a landlord lobby pushing for an upgrade of Tsim Sha Tsui East by converting about five hectares of open space, including the promenade, for commercial and retail purposes.

Ferry firms push the boat out

More sailings to Central and from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui East will be introduced during the holidays. Service hours of the Central-Tsim Sha Tsui East ferry will be extended to 11.30pm leaving Central and 11.45pm leaving Tsim Sha Tsui East on Christmas Eve and New Years's Eve. Seven extra sailings will leave from each pier on both dates.
