Last month, two residential sites in Tuen Mun were sold at 8 per cent and 24 per cent below market expectations. The scrapping of an auction for an MTR Corporation site at Tin Shui Wai also reflected pessimism among developers about the outlook for the mass residential market in the New Territories.

HK$1.9b price tag on pair of new sites

The site in Sha Tin's Kau To covers 64,046 square feet. It is located atop the Kau To hill and is close to a site owned by Sun Hung Kai Properties. It could yield a total gross floor area of up to 134,496 sq ft. The government has imposed a height restriction in the area.

Police raids net dozens of triad suspects in Tuen Mun

The alleged leader of the Tuen Mun faction of the Sun Yee On triads and 18 of his henchmen were among 64 people arrested in a series of raids over the weekend, police say.

The arrest of the alleged gangster, She Pei, comes at the end of a six-month undercover police operation.

I refer to Martin Williams' letter ("Mega incinerator project being driven by vested interests", April 26). Any fact-based analysis would conclude that any new waste-treatment technology should be located in Tsang Tsui near Tuen Mun, not Shek Kwu Chau. Locating a massive incinerator using a polluting sunset technology in Shek Kwu Chau represents the worst combination of technology choice and site selection.

Nine bidders in race for Tseung Kwan O site

Two residential sites up for tender have had mixed response, with the bigger plot in Tseung Kwan O attracting strong interest but the other in Tuen Mun gathering just three bids.

The 149,850 square feet site at Area 65CI in Tseung Kwan O drew nine submissions, the Lands Department said.

Surveyors estimate the two sites will fetch between HK$2.2 billion and HK$2.33 billion.

Gangsters flushed out in operation Lightsmoke

Thirty-three people, aged between 15 and 65, have been rounded up in a crackdown on a Tuen Mun faction of the Sun Yee On triad, according to police.

The eight-day operation, codenamed Lightsmoke, targeted the faction headed by one of the triad's "red-pole fighters" known as Cripple Wing.

Wheelock wins Tuen Mun residential site for HK$1.4b

The Lands Department said Wheelock outbid eight developers and acquired the site for HK$3,683 per square foot. The price is in line with market expectations, which ranged between HK$1.13 billion and HK$1.5 billion.

Sunray Cave Sun Hei plunged into further trouble after losing to Tuen Mun in the RedMR First Division yesterday.

Firemen extinguish blaze in typhoon shelter

Firemen extinguished a blaze in the Tuen Mun typhoon shelter after four boats caught fire on Saturday morning.

There was still black smoke coming out of the 25 to 39 metre boats two hours after firemen arrived at the scene. A blast was also heard.

Firefighters used three water jets and three breathing apparatus teams to combat the blaze.

Probe launched on fire at Tuen Mun recycling plants

Firefighters have launched a probe into a blaze that engulfed two recycling plants in Tuen Mun just before midnight on Christmas Eve.

The No 3 alarm fire, which started at 11.53pm on Monday night, was put out after seven hours. The blaze broke out at one recycling plant and swiftly spread to another nearby plant.
