The city's biggest television station, TVB, has refused to air a live broadcast of an annual forum on the government budget on its most popular channel next week, citing programming reasons. The joint-media event, in which TVB itself is one of the eight organisers, will see Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah discussing details of his 2013-14 budget on Wednesday.

Cable TV is pressing the government to urgently approve its application for a free-to-air licence, or risk denying sports fans in the city live coverage of the London Olympic Games this summer.

Star striker earns his acting spurs with cameo in teen drama

It seems Tottenham Hotspur captain Robbie Keane did more than play a couple of football matches when he was in town two weeks ago for the Panasonic Cup. The star striker also tried his hand at a little acting. The 29-year-old Ireland international was approached by TVB on the day of the tournament to participate in a teen drama called Love Kick Off, which began airing last Sunday.

Deadline set for digital TV decision

Hong Kong's two free-to-air television broadcasters will decide in October whether to adopt a European-developed digital terrestrial television standard or a mainland system that is an amalgam of US and European technology.
