Hong Kong women's team took a step closer to reaching the Uber Cup finals in the qualifiers in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam yesterday. Spearheaded by Wang Chen (pictured), the world number five, the SAR defeated Thailand 3-0 in the quarters to set up a clash against South Korea, winners over India.

Winning start for HK in Uber Cup

Hong Kong's women's team got off to a winning start in the Uber Cup finals but the margin of victory, against a below-par Netherlands, was less convincing than expected.

Led by Wang Chen, the world number three, the SAR women handed a 3-2 defeat to the Dutch in the opening match of group X in Sendai, Japan, last night.

HK beat Pakistan to seal Uber Cup place

Hong Kong's Uber Cup team scored their third straight victory after whitewashing Pakistan 5-0 in the Asian zone qualifying tournament in Jaipur, India, yesterday.

With five teams in the group that also includes Singapore, Thailand and the host, Hong Kong have sealed their place in the finals in Japan in May.
