Housing Society lawyers yesterday sent letters to shop tenants in the Un Chau Street urban renewal zone in Shamshuipo, warning them to leave by the end of next month or face legal action.

Workers hurt in street robbery

Updated at 3.44pm: Two restaurant workers were robbed of $200,000 after being attacked with water pipes in Cheung Sha Wan on Monday afternoon.

At 12.52pm the two men, surnamed Yip and Chan, left a restaurant in the Un Chau Street Estate shopping arcade with a black travel bag containing the day's takings to deposit in a bank.

Elderly landslide victims face soaring rent

Elderly people made homeless by a landslide discovered yesterday that they would have to pay more than double the rent in their new flats.

The rent for a flat on Shekkipmei Estate where the landslide struck on Wednesday is about $300 a month, but many residents now face having to pay between $658 and $890 a month.

Tutors console classmates of murdered boy

Tearful classmates of murdered five-year-old boy Yu Chi-fung returned to school yesterday where they were comforted by teachers and warned to beware of strangers.

Many seemed too young to understand the tragedy but some were bewildered and downcast. Some wept when they heard the news, including the girl who sat next to Chi-fung in class.

Projects worth $297.5m awarded

FOUNDATIONS contracts worth $297.5 million have been awarded by the Housing Authority under its programme to develop new estates.

The largest jobs have gone to Tysan Foundation for work at Tseung Kwan O area 59. The firm has a $108 million contract for piling and the construction of pile caps at phase 6 and a $86.1 million order for similar work at phase 5.

Sorry for mistake

I REFER to the letter headlined, ''Empty homes still getting mail'' (South China Morning Post, January 29), in which your correspondent stated that letters were still being delivered to vacated flats in Un Chau Street Estate.

Un Chau Street Estate is in the process of redevelopment.

Empty homes still getting mail

I AM a resident of the Un Chau Street Estate in Cheung Sha Wan.

Due to re-development of the estate, many tenants had already moved out.

Notices of their removal are posted on the outside of vacant flats but still, postmen are delivering letters.
