The Philippines said on Friday it may quickly withdraw from a United Nations peacekeeping force in the Golan Heights because of security concerns, following the abduction of four Filipino troops.

Congo rebels ready to fight new UN forces

Rebels in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo have said they are prepared to respond to any attack by the United Nations' first offensive force. In March, the UN Security Council renewed the mandate of the UN mission in the Congo (Monusco) and approved the creation of a 3,000-strong "intervention brigade".

Ivory Coast, whose security situation is described as "fragile" after a decade of turmoil that culminated in a brief civil war in 2011, has asked the UN to consider deploying the unmanned aerial systems when its peacekeeping forces are reduced later this year.
