North Korea sets out tough pre-conditions for talks

North Korea laid down rigid pre-conditions yesterday for dialogue with Seoul or Washington, including the scrapping of UN sanctions and a guaranteed end to South Korea-US joint military drills.

North Korea laid down rigid pre-conditions on Thursday for any talks with Seoul or Washington, including the withdrawal of UN sanctions and a guaranteed end to South Korea-US joint military drills.

The list of demands, which came from the North’s top military body, kicked off by insisting on a general apology for all “provocative acts” taken against North Korea up to now.

North Korea on Wednesday condemned training flights by nuclear-capable US B-52 bombers over the Korean peninsula as an “unpardonable provocation” and threatened military action if they continue.

The Pentagon says at least one B-52 has flown over South Korea in recent weeks as part of joint South Korea-US military exercises that Pyongyang has denounced as rehearsals for invasion.
