Lawmakers plan to set up a select committee by the end of the year to investigate former housing chief Leung Chin-man's employment at New World China Land.

No-shows voting with their feet

HALF of the provisional legislators were completely absent from some of the bills committees they joined.

And nearly half of the members missed more than half of the meetings of panels they joined which monitor government performance.

There were 26 bills committees but members could choose to join or not.

Bid fails to change decision structure

Provisional legislature president Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai's proposal to revamp the body's committee structure failed to win approval from a working group yesterday.

Instead, the group on rules of procedure decided to stick to existing practice with the bills committees and panels run by the House Committee, which excludes the president.

Rita Fan's committee bid under fire

Plans by the provisional legislature president to revamp the committee system to give her a say were criticised yesterday.

Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai wants to change the elected Legislative Council's system, and have committees set up by the interim body as a whole rather than by the House Committee.

The president is excluded from the House Committee.
