Bags of style

If you are milling around Central on Saturday you may notice shoppers carrying a cotton tote bag emblazoned with strawberries. The bag, which is custom designed by Yves Saint Laurent creative director Stefano Pilati, contains the brand's manifesto published for the new spring/summer season, and shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

Drugs bureau tests Red Bull for cocaine

A government spokeswoman says the Security Bureau's narcotics division is conducting tests on the energy drink Red Bull after German and Taiwanese authorities found traces of cocaine in the brand's drinks. The product was removed from shelves yesterday in the two dominant supermarket chains, ParknShop and Wellcome.

Famous figures in the frame

Lane Crawford invited actress Maggie Cheung Man-yuk to its IFC store on March 6 to unveil a photography exhibition called TrANSITIONs, the centerpiece of its spring/summer campaign. Cheung was among six famous Chinese figures to be photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Others imortalised in the exhibition include actor Liu Ye and model Du Juan.

Maggie Cheung Man-yuk was seen but not heard on Thursday night at Lane Crawford's IFC store. She's one of six internationally renowned Chinese stars photographed by the Dutch duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin as part of the retailer's spring-summer campaign.

Things have reached a pretty pass when it's no longer enough that we send photographers as emissaries to peer through the keyholes of celebrity's homes. Now, it seems, we must see through the keyholes of the photographers' homes as well. But like it or not, the show now on at Yvon Lambert New York is one of the most inspired of the city's summer exhibitions.

Underground misery

In the 1980s and the early 1990s, New Yorkers feared for their lives on the subway system as they headed on to graffiti-covered trains, but I am told that if you avoided being mugged, you usually got to work and back home on time. After the September 11 attacks, we all feared death from an anthrax attack or by being blown up underground.
