I'm in London this weekend and will attend the Kent & Curwen sponsored Royal Polo tomorrow. It is a quintessentially English tradition that will see the likes of princes William and Harry take to the field.

Leather

While leather is traditionally a winter fabric, Celine designer Phoebe Philo changed all that when she showed buttery soft leather tees on her spring catwalks a few seasons back. Since then, leather has appeared in more spring collections, as designers experiment with fresh ways to transform it into a lighter, more wearable material.

A delicate touch

One of the most memorable images to come from the Spring-Summer 2012 collections was that of models in bon-bon-coloured lace dresses perched daintily on white horses, spinning round and around on the Louis Vuitton carousel. A treasured aunt

We all want an aunt like the one Alice Tam Sau-ying has. The designer and owner of the Aalis boutique on Yiu Wah Street, Causeway Bay, not only inherited a taste for luxurious heritage from the professional tai-tai, but also a wardrobe full of designer vintage wear. The centrepiece of Tam's wardrobe is a hand-stitched wedding dress made for her aunt in the 1960s.

Dressed in a black T-shirt and his signature row of pearls, Giambattista Valli is all smiles. That's quite understandable, because the reviews for the designer's debut haute couture collection have been glowing.

'It's more difficult to talk about the differences and easier to talk about the similarities.' Pier Paolo Piccioli, her partner at the helm of the label, agrees.
