Ford's role as healer should not be forgotten

In death at the age of 93, 30 years after he left the White House, Gerald Ford was introduced to a generation that never knew him as America's only unelected president. That was true, but the description hardly did justice to the man or reflected his tumultuous times. The state funeral with which a grateful nation honoured him yesterday made up for that.
