The modest magazine Ha Wan Pao caught my attention with its understated design, unpretentious content and simple credo of being "a monthly paper about people who make beautiful things". It is "created", rather than just published, by Anna Gleeson.

A 49-year-old man was charged with assaulting five police officers by allegedly blowing a whistle in their ears at the July 1 protest march this year that organisers say drew 400,000. But police say 63,00 marched. He will appear in Eastern Court on Wednesday.

Masked men attack newspaper office

Police are hunting four assailants who strode into the offices of a radical online newspaper and destroyed its equipment yesterday.

The masked men marched into Independent Media's (In-media) ninth-floor office on Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, at around 1.20pm and smashed computers and a television before fleeing, the paper said.
