Ill Dissing streaks to record

Air traffic controller Kjeld Dissing yesterday destroyed a quality field of almost 800 athletes to win the Mizuno Half Marathon at Tai Mei-tuk.

Despite suffering from an upset stomach, Dissing also destroyed the course record set by Roberto De Vido in 1995. He clocked an impressive one hour, nine minutes and 54 seconds, almost a minute faster than De Vido's previous record.

De Vido close to Olympic standard

HONG KONG'S leading distance runner, Roberto De Vido, will take another shot at qualifying for the Atlanta Olympics after he came tantalisingly close to achieving the Games' marathon B standard at the Vigaranomaratona run in Ferrara, Italy.

De Vido clocked two hours, 27:27 minutes to narrowly miss out on the Atlanta qualifying time of two hours 25 minutes.

Shrugging off a determined challenge from Danish newcomer Kjeld Dissing midway through the race, De Vido, of Watson's Athletic Club (WAC), clocked one hour, 11 minutes and 32 seconds.
