Forget BC and AD - Moreira ensures it's now BM and AM

Joao Moreira has made such an indelible mark in his four months here, the Hong Kong racing scene can be measured in BM and AM - 'before Moreira' and 'after Moreira'. Photos: Kenneth Chan

Zac Purton dominating, dueling with Douglas Whyte and riding a card full of favourites, Karis Teetan grinning his way to a treble, even the local kids winning races:  Saturday at Sha Tin was a glimpse into the years BM – that is, “before Moreira” – a time not too long ago.

Dominant to dominate from a perfect alley

Dominant will feel right at home over the 2,000m distance.

There is no horse more favoured by the set weights and penalties conditions of Sunday's Jockey Club Cup than John Moore's Dominant, and the drop in weight combined with bad draws for his two major rivals make him the safest banker in the first leg of the Triple Trio.

Whyte can bounce back

Douglas Whyte doesn't have huge depth in his seven rides, but his best two should be enough to carry him to Jockey Challenge success.

The Durban Demon is backing up after two sub-par performances where he scored just six and 12 points, but Delta Hedge and Great Renown seem assured of points and make him tough to beat.

Yiu has plenty of Fun with a double

Ricky Yiu Poon-fai put the win of Fun Heroes down to staying pedigree, but was referring to the jockey, not the notoriously difficult horse.

The distance-race expertise of Neil Callan, who grabbed his first win for the season, was the key to his hard-to-handle horse's Class Three win over 1,800m, according to Yiu, who snared a double on the day.
