HIV strains in Asia 'more lethal than US'

HIV may have moved quickly into the heterosexual community in Asia because strains of the virus found in Asia are more infective for heterosexuals than strains found in the US, a leading researcher says.

Dr Robert Gallo, credited as the co-discoverer 12 years ago of the AIDS-causing virus, was speaking at a Hong Kong University of Science and Technology symposium.

Hospitals' sick behaviour

I WAS saddened to read the article about four private hospitals in the territory refusing to admit patients who had been diagnosed HIV-positive.

The reasons put forward were because of the higher costs involved and the inexperience of staff to deal with the disease.

HIV is part of modern-day life, it exists in all societies and ignorance is quelling its spread.
