Chavez to be embalmed 'like Lenin' and laid in museum

Venezuelans flocked to see president Hugo Chavez lying in state, as his political heir revealed he would be embalmed "like Lenin" and displayed in the barracks where he plotted a failed coup.

Once he bestrode his world, lending his name to more museums, streets, monuments and public institutions than any other 20th-century figure. But in the Mongolian capital, Ulan Bator at least, it is goodbye Lenin as a political dinosaur makes way for the real kind.

Poll finds support for moving Vladimir Lenin's body out of Red Square

Just one in four Russians thinks the body of Vladimir Lenin should remain ensconced in its dark mausoleum on Red Square, according to a poll.

The new findings, released this week , have fuelled speculation that the Russian authorities may bury Lenin's body - a measure that remains politically charged 89 years after the Soviet leader's death.

Thousands of books no longer banned in Turkey as objection deadline passes

From communist works to a comic book, thousands of titles banned by Turkey over the decades have been taken off the restricted list as part of a government reform.

In July, the parliament adopted a bill stipulating that any decision taken before 2012 to block the sale and distribution of a published work would be voided if no court chose to confirm the ruling within six months.
