New trade union chief elected

Wang Zhaoguo was yesterday elected as the new chairman of China's national trade union, Xinhua reported. Mr Wang, former head of the Communist Party's United Front Department, replaced Wei Jianxing as the leader of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. The replacement was largely expected as Mr Wei, 71, had stepped down from the Politburo of the Communist Party in October.
