Battle of the weavers

Arachne brushed away a spider crawling along the top of her loom and watched it scuttle across the floor to safety behind the oil jars in the far corner of the room.

Today she hoped to complete her work. The light was good and already she had prepared her coloured threads and bobbins in neat rows on the table beside the loom.

The winners

AHIGHLIGHT OF the fair will be the Designers Gallery in the Hall of Creation, featuring the five award-winning entries of this year's Texprint competition.

Texprint has five categories for original design: weave, knit, print, colour and breaking new ground. The organiser, Texprint, said the winners represented 'the most successful and talented new textile talents in Britain'.
