MTR weight rule is not working

I refer to the letter by Kendrew Wong, of the MTR Corporation ("Big-bag curbs trial still being weighed", October 20). There is no need to have a trial and wait three months to see how effective the new baggage limits are, as they are not working.

Rethink flawed move to evict Montessori

My family has been anxious about recent developments relating to the International Montessori School ("Parents fight to halt school relocation", October 8).

My children like the school very much. My elder daughter joined last September and my younger son started there last month.

Lawrence Cheung - The mainland can stop this smuggling in a flash by quadrupling the border customs checks and imposing duties and penalties for evading same. Yet the cost and burden of slowing down this grey trade is being borne by Hongkongers.

Passengers balk at new MTR weight limit

Mainland visitors and Hongkongers alike complained about inconvenience as the MTR Corp began enforcing its new baggage weight limit, yesterday, to crack down on parallel traders.

Railway workers set up scales outside four busy stations near the border, and passengers going through the wide gates needed to have their bags weighed. Luggage over 32kg was turned back.

Parallel-goods traders were dealt another blow yesterday when the MTR Corporation announced a new baggage weight limit, which could cut by as much as two-thirds the amount of cargo they can take on trains.
