WOMAN IN COURT OVER JUSTICE OFFICE ATTACK

A woman was due to appear in Western Court today after she allegedly used a hammer to break the glass door to the Department of Justice office in Queensway. Police said the woman, 40, fled after the 9am attack on the 23rd-floor of Queensway Government Offices yesterday.

Six aid shoplifting probe

Six women arrested for a series of shoplifting offences were yesterday charged with two counts of conspiracy to steal. The six, aged between 33 and 61, who police said were members of a syndicate, will appear in Western Court today.

Six Colombians appeared in Western Court jointly charged with robbing a jeweller of 191 diamonds worth about $16 million on Wednesday in Stanley Street, Central. The case was adjourned until Wednesday and the defendants remanded in custody.

An 18-year-old man who allegedly demanded a $40 million ransom was charged with blackmail. He had allegedly demanded the money from a businessman in return for his 19-year-old daughter's release.

Paralysed suspect to miss hearing

Yip Kai-foon is expected to be absent again from a Western Court hearing tomorrow because he is too ill to sit in a wheelchair. Yip, 35, injured his spine during a gunbattle with police in Kennedy Town last month, and is paralysed.

He has been charged with possession of firearms and ammunition without a licence and shooting with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Charged Yip too ill to appear in court

Yip Kai-foon, 35, was charged in his absence in Western Court in relation to a shootout with police in Kennedy Town on Monday. Yip was under medical care in Stanley Prison, magistrate Ian Candy was told.

Yip faces one count each of possessing a semi-automatic pistol and ammunition, and shooting constable Chow Hau-leung with intent. The case was adjourned until June 21.

TWO men facing charges over an alleged $8.5 billion cigarette smuggling racket appeared in Western Court. A provisional hearing date was set for November 6.

Defendants Henfrey Tin Sau-kwong and Yeung Kam-fai were asked to appear again on July 3.

Blackmail plot charge

A 33-YEAR-OLD transport worker will appear in Western Court today charged with blackmailing a Kwai Chung factory owner.

The owner said someone had threatened to explode a bomb in his factory if he did not pay $700,000.

Assault case

A HOUSEWIFE accused of assaulting two men outside a courtroom will stand trial in Western Court.

Wong Ching-to, 30, pleaded not guilty yesterday to two counts of common assault.

She is accused of assaulting Lai Yip-kie and police Inspector Ng Wing-fai in Western Court last Wednesday. Inspector Ng is a prosecution witness in a case against Wong.

Alleged fish smugglers netted

FISHERIES officers and police yesterday seized 4,800 kilograms of smuggled fish worth $66,000 at Kennedy Town waterfront - the biggest haul so far this year.

Three lorry drivers were arrested for allegedly transporting fish without a permit. They are to appear in Western Court on Saturday accused of illegally transporting fish weighing more than 60 kilograms.

Housewife accused of murder

A HOUSEWIFE charged with murdering her five-year-old daughter appeared in Western Court yesterday.

Lee Sau-ping, 27, is accused of killing Lee Man-yi at Repulse Bay on February 7.

No plea was taken. Magistrate Gus Andree-Wiltens remanded her in police custody for further inquiries.
