King returns with a bang to capture HK crown

Taiwanese-born American Phillip King made a triumphant return by winning the men's singles title at the Hong Kong Champions Cup at the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club yesterday.

Champions Cup tennis returns

The Hong Kong Tennis Champions Cup returns this month for three exciting days.

Hosted by the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club (CWBGCC), the annual tennis extravaganza will be held from January 25 to 27.

The Champions Cup 2008 is divided into four categories: Men's Singles, Men's Doubles, Ladies' Doubles Challenge and Parent & Child Doubles.

Hong Kong staved off relegation from group two of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone by defeating Iran 3-1 in the play-offs in Tehran yesterday. Yu Hiu-tung (pictured) snatched victory in the first match of the reverse singles when he beat Anoosha Shahgholi 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.

HK's hopes for Davis Cup dashed

Hong Kong lost their first reverse singles match to Indonesia on Sunday, ending any hope of being promoted to group one of the Davis Cup competition next year.

Henry So Hoh-kong, making his Hong Kong debut, was beaten by Elbert Sie, 6-4, 0-6, 3-6, 3-6, sending Indonesia to the Asia/Oceania Zone group two semi-finals after their 3-1 victory at Victoria Park Centre Court.
