Visitor discovers woman's body in flat

A 46-year-old woman was found dead inside her Wong Tai Sin flat yesterday. A visitor raised the alarm when the woman failed to answer the door when she knocked. An ambulance was called and the woman was certified dead.

Kerry project takes lion's share of interest

The focus this week will be the sale of Lions Rise in Wong Tai Sin developed by Kerry Properties, Samsung Securities (Asia) said. The price list for the first batch of 60 flats was released on Sunday, with an average price of HK$9,998 per square foot, lower than its target of HK$12,000. Most were two-bedroom 736 sqft flats and three-bedroom flats of 934 sqft.

Lions Rise homes to go on sale soon

Kerry Properties plans to start selling flats at its 968-unit residential development Lions Rise in Wong Tai Sin in early May. Chu Ip-pui, executive director of Kerry, said the company expected to get pre-sale consent to sell the units in the next few weeks and the first batch on sale would consist of about 50 to 60 units.

You have probably met her, you just didn't realise it. She's Mrs Average Hong Kong as put together from data in the latest population and household survey.

The average woman is 40 years old, probably married, earns HK$18,000 a month and lives in Kwun Tong. Two people live with her and she graduated from upper secondary school.

Teacher admits putting girl in rubbish bin

A primary teacher charged with assault occasioning bodily harm admitted at Kwun Tong Court yesterday putting a nine-year-old girl in a rubbish bin on April 27 and dragging it so she grazed her knees. Wong Chun-chung, 33, who taught in Wong Tai Sin, was angry at what he thought was the Primary Four pupil's poor attitude. He was bound over for nine months for HK$2,500.

A woman believed to have a history of mental illness jumped to her death from a flat at a public housing estate yesterday after apparently decapitating her mother and setting the unit ablaze.

Department removes 14 metre coral tree

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said it removed yesterday a coral tree in Wong Tai Sin that was listed on the register of old and valuable trees, to protect the public. A group of tree experts found the 14 metre tree at the San Po Kong interchange was at risk of collapsing owing to an attack by a kind of wasp, the department said.

Probation order in charcoal death case

A judge ordered that a mentally ill woman be placed on probation for three years after she killed her wheelchair-bound mother by burning charcoal. Mr Justice Peter Line, of the Court of First Instance, made the order against Chu Wai-yin, 40, who had admitted one count of manslaughter. The court heard Chu had a history of depression and bipolar affective disorder.

Three on murder charge over boy's death

Police yesterday charged three teenagers, aged between 14 and 19, with murder over the death on Monday of a 15-year-old boy in Wong Tai Sin. The victim was one of five boys who were assaulted by a gang outside Lung Chi House in Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate at about 12.15am.

Plaza facelift a big boost for business

The number of visitors to Wong Tai Sin Plaza doubled to 100,000 visitors in October year on year, after a HK$130 million renovation, The Link Management said. It said the number of shops had increased 26 per cent to 126. Fanny Chan Yim-fun said the rent at her salon had increased by 10 per cent but business was up 20 per cent.
