Trainer Sean Woods is hoping import Free Judgement will bring his European form to Sha Tin tomorrow to surprise some of the big names in the Group One Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Classic Mile (1,600m).

Sean Woods goes into Sunday's Group Two Jockey Club Cup undeterred by the opposition and 'very bullish' that he can turn over last year's winner Collection on the way to an international date next month.

Woods has earmarked the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase at 2,400m as King Dancer's goal on December 12, but couldn't be happier with the four-year-old stallion going to 2,000m.

Woods, Victoire to team up again

Trainer Sean Woods produced some magic in tandem with Johan Victoire last season and hopes to wave the wand again by bringing the young French jockey back as his retained rider as early as next week.

'It is all pending the approval of the Jockey Club, of course, but I'm hoping Johan will be here next week and start riding on Sunday,' Woods said yesterday.

Trainer Sean Woods wasn't altogether taking a victory bow after Visionario finally broke through for his first Hong Kong win as part of a stable double.

Visionario (Eric Saint-Martin) finished powerfully to beat Vanquish Delight running away in the Manicou Handicap (2,000m) in the style of a horse on his way up the ladder - except that he has already been up there before.

Club farewells Woods

Popular jockey Wendyll Woods bowed out yesterday with a special presentation from the Hong Kong Jockey Club in recognition of his longevity in racing in the territory.

Club chief executive Lawrence Wong presented Woods with a silver dish to acknowledge his contribution to Hong Kong racing over a 20-year period, during which he completed 16 seasons or riding.
