The solicitude displayed by Anthony Wu Ting-yuk, chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, with regard to use of public funds almost brought tears to my eyes.

Hospital chief faces barrage of abuse at doctors' pay-rise protest

Frontline doctors who joined a union sit-in yesterday were left disappointed after Hospital Authority chairman Anthony Wu Ting-yuk refused to say if and when their demands to restore the pay scales of junior doctors would be met.

Mr Wu met the 1,000 doctors in the lobby of Queen Elizabeth Hospital to try to appease their anger.

When Anthony Wu Ting-yuk took over as chairman of the Hospital Authority in late 2004, he optimistically thought the role might take around 30 per cent of his time, allowing him to handle other community posts in tandem.

Hospital chiefs alerted university over private patients' cases

Queen Mary Hospital managers had been aware of irregular billing for private patient services as early as September but only informed a 'related authority' late last month, the Hospital Authority chairman said yesterday.
