Xi Jinping

Xi Jinping was elected General Secretary of the Chinese Communisty Party and Chairman of the Central Military Commission at the 18th Party Congress in 2012, replacing Hu Jintao as the top leader of the Communist Party. Xi was elected President in March 2013. Born in 1953, Xi is the son of Xi Zhongxun, a veteran leader of the Party. He graduated from Tsinghua University in 1979 with a degree in engineering.

Rule of law is order of the day for Xi Jinping

President Xi Jinping has a clear agenda for the upcoming fourth plenary session of the 18th party congress: the rule of law.

Beijing's leaders will be hoping there is some truth to the Chinese saying, "Great disorder leads to great order". That after the chaos and uncertainty of the ongoing mass protests in Hong Kong, "great order" will follow.

We all know how busy Chinese president Xi Jinping can be, so when he calls for a meeting, it must be top priority. For the richest Hong Kong tycoons, it is unusual to meet Xi in a group meeting, particularly to discuss politics rather than business.
