Airline plans route extension

China Southwestern Airlines will open three international air routes connecting Chongqing with Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea this year or early next year, Xinhua news agency reported. Xinhua said the airline was working on a suitable time to start the service, according to the Chongqing branch of China Southwestern, which is based in Chengdu in Sichuan.

BEA opens Chongqing office

The Bank of East Asia yesterday opened a new representative office in Chongqing municipality, bringing its total mainland operations to 17. Its network on the mainland includes branches in Shenzhen, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Dalian and representative offices in Fuzhou, Beijing, Qingdao, Wuhan and Tianjin.

Warning sounded over air pollution

Air pollution poses a significant public health risk in at least five mainland cities, according to a report.

Authorities said air quality failed to meet even minimal standards in Beijing, Zhengzhou, Tianjin, Guangzhou and Qingdao, and represented a health risk for infants, the sick and elderly.

Photo firm to set up China unit

Photographic and processing distributor China-Hongkong Photo Products Holdings is to spend $26 million on a representative office in Guangzhou.

The 15,000 square foot office is at the junction of Dongfeng Road and Nonglingxia Road in the heart of Guangzhou's commercial district.
