Exclusive clubs may lose land to housing projects

The government may take back underused sports facilities, yacht clubs and camp sites occupied by 13 private organisations and use the land to build much-needed homes, a source familiar with the situation said.

Olympic sailing champ to join charity race

Two-time Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson will join local sailors in next month's 24-Hour Charity Dinghy Race to help raise funds for the Children's Cancer Foundation.

Organised by Hebe Haven Yacht Club (HHYC) and sponsored by Now Broadband TV, the annual overnight race will be held on October 15-16 off Sai Kung.

Smaller classes join elite

Windsurfers and dinghies will, for the first time, join the bigger cruisers in this year's China Coast Cup - the first major local regatta since the handover.

Organisers of the October 1-5 series said that, in addition to traditional IMS and CHS handicap classes, the series is open to smaller one design boats, dinghies and windsurfers.

X-Rated tightens grip on lead

Rick Strompf's Farr 47 X-Rated crossed the finish line in first place to win the Division A title in Race Four of the Fragrant Harbour Typhoon Series 1997 yesterday morning.

After a haphazard start to the race, in which five boats jumped the starting gun, X-Rated sailed away cleanly to take line honours and strengthen its overall lead in the nine-race series.

Improved facilities for users of marina

AS additional facilities now being built come on stream, the remaining berths at the Gold Coast marina are expected to be rapidly taken up by sailing enthusiasts.

According to administrators of the marina, the facility was 29 per cent occupied.

The marina of the Gold Coast Yacht and Country Club had been in operation for six months.
