A harbour watchdog has backed a proposal to make room on the harbourfront for an international yacht race village and a permanent site for the Maritime Museum in Causeway Bay.

More than 1,700 yachts took part in the 44th Barcolana regatta, the largest single-start sailing race in the world, in Trieste in northern Italy.

Splashing in

The sailors are a bit of an oddity, even as the stars of the show. Their tanned, weather-beaten faces contrast with those of the pale, wealthy women strolling the docks, parasols in hand. Their shouted conversations are in French, Spanish, Italian and English, standing out from the Putonghua spoken all around them.

Autumn Regatta kicks off new season

A spectacular sight is expected in Victoria Harbour this afternoon as a flotilla of yachts takes to the water for the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club's season-opening Autumn Regatta. Three races are scheduled - one this afternoon and two tomorrow - with sunny skies expected and some stiff competition from a large number of class boats.
