No economy class on sleek super-yacht

One of the world's biggest and most opulent super-yachts, whose deck is regularly peppered with the rich and famous, is docked at the Gold Coast in Tuen Mun.

Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch was spotted on the vessel with family and friends this summer in Majorca, Spain, while Hollywood leading man Leonardo DiCaprio has been reported cruising around Australia in it.

Predictions of yacht market boom are a salesman's dream

Luxury brands are enjoying huge growth on the mainland, which is expected to be the world's biggest luxury market by 2015. However, only a few hundred mainlanders own yachts. With projections that the mainland yacht market will reach US$10 billion by 2020 - almost a third of last year's global total - yacht broker Sunny Tao sees great potential for the industry.

Allen's armada

One of the world's biggest private yachts, belonging to Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, has moored off Sheung Wan. Mr Allen bought the 127-metre Octopus for US$200 million. It carries two helicopters, seven boats and a submarine that sleeps eight for up to two weeks under water. The crew of 60 includes former US Navy Seals and the vessel costs US$20 million per year to run.
