Police charge activist who cast doubt on suicide

A friend of pro-democracy activist Li Wangyang who challenged a police finding that Li committed suicide in a hospital has been formally arrested by police on subversion charges, according to a police document and a fellow activist.

Police hold ex-head of Alibaba offshoot

Mainland e-commerce giant Alibaba Group said yesterday that police had detained a former general manager of its group-buying business on suspicion of taking bribes.

The company had said in March that the employee, Yan Limin, had been removed from his position.
