HK's wheelchair fencers shine at World Cup

Former South China Morning Post Student Sportsperson of the Year Alison Yu Chui-yee played a key role as Hong Kong finished second in the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup at the Regal Riverside Hotel in Sha Tin last weekend.

Yu and Chan Yui-chong, the world's top-ranked players, each won two golds and a silver, helping Hong Kong to finish second behind China in the medals table.

Yu and Chan lead HK's World Cup medal hopes

Hong Kong have high hopes for a big medal haul when the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup starts today.

Two of the top women in the world rankings, Yu Chui-yee and Chan Yui-chong are the SAR's leading lights in the three-day, 12 nation event hosted by the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled at the Regal Riverside Hotel in Sha Tin.

Chan cuts dash as epee star of world

ANGELA Chan Pui-yuk became Hong Kong's first woman fencer to get a world ranking when she reached the third round of a Grade A epee tournament in Zoetermeer, in Holland at the weekend.

Chan, a member of last year's Asian Championship silver-medal-winning team, survived a group competition to reach the direct elimination round in which she beat an Estonian opponent.
