Home to some of Hong Kong's oldest shops, Sai Ying Pun is a holdout of Hong Kong heritage. This small, resourceful neighbourhood west of Central was built by a close-knit community of traders and residents whose families have existed side by side for more than 130 years.

BUYERS on the ball

Decrepit low-rise buildings bordering Central are a boon for savvy investors who spot an opportunity where others see the wrecking ball.

Kennedy Town, Sai Ying Pun and Sheung Wan are home to a blend of former shop houses, crumbling low-rise residential buildings, a smattering of high rises and small Western and local businesses.

Old Peak Road handrails will be act of bureaucratic vandalism

One of the astonishing amenities of Hong Kong is the access to natural park settings from almost literally the back door of dense urban environments. This is certainly the case for the lucky residents of Mid-Levels, from the heart of Central all the way around to Pok Fu Lam.

Mr Chan, this is not a comedy show

With reference to Garmen Chan's reply about Euro a Go Go (SCMP June 20) I find Mr Chan's reply to be absolutely nonsense. How can he say [opinion about] the programme is subjective!

It is very clear that Mr Chan does not know anything about football or indeed has no clue on how to produce a professional football programme.

No influence

The recent debate over the noisy broadcasting on buses only shows that public-service companies put profits before the well-being of customers.

Hotels and offices come to Sai Ying Pun, but prices are still on the low side in the land of preserved seafood

SAI YING PUN LIES between Pokfulam and Sheung Wan in an area that used to be an old port. Part of the Western district of Hong Kong, it is characterised by stretches of traditional shops, especially dried seafood shops selling shark fin, a high population of pensioners and some of the best schools in town.
