Court hears of Chiang's cash order

The trial of high-profile businesswoman Lily Chiang Lai-lei heard yesterday that she instructed her personal assistant to deal with more than HK$3 million in proceeds from two alleged fraud schemes.

Yip Yuk-chun, who worked for Chiang for 15 years, was testifying under immunity against the former chairwoman of the General Chamber of Commerce on the third day of the trial.

Lantern hops on to stage

A giant rabbit lantern created by local artist Esther Yip Lai-man is on display at the Citywalk Piazza in Tsuen Wan.

The lantern is part of the Happy Tree installation which was featured at the Hong Kong Art Fair in May.

'I made many small, colourful clay figures which I placed under the tree,' said Yip.

Daughters held over father's hospital death

Two women have been arrested after their elderly father - whose son is the chairman of a listed company - died in hospital yesterday under suspicious circumstances.

Yip Yung, 84, was a patient at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital in Village Road, Happy Valley.

A nurse alerted doctors after she found him lying unconscious on his bed about 8am.

Yip's Pota unruffled by suit

Gift company Yip's Pota said a reported bankruptcy petition against chairman Yip Kam-fai over a personal loan of $38.04 million would have no effect on the company's financial position or operations. Mr Yip, who holds 16.15 per cent of the company, was not actively involved in daily operations, it said. It said Mr Yip had denied receiving a High Court petition.
