Planning officials are investigating waste dumping on a 22,000 square metre conservation area in Yuen Long, amid suspicions it could have come from a construction site for the MTR's high-speed cross-border railway.

Yuen Long crackdown on triads leads to 93 arrests

Ninety-three people have been rounded up in a crackdown on two triad factions during which an unlicensed pub in a Yuen Long factory was busted.

More than half of those arrested in raids in Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai over the past two days are suspected members of the Wo Shing Wo or 14K gangs. Last night, police were still hunting 15 or 16 others, including the two triad leaders.

Businessman fights off Yuen Long stun-gun robbers

A mainland businessman fought off two robbers during a bungled robbery in Yuen Long yesterday after two stun guns apparently failed to release an electric shock strong enough to disable him.

The 42-year-old withdrew HK$500,000 from a bank and had breakfast at a cafe in Yuen Long before the hold-up happened at about 10.15am.

A village in Yuen Long was in mourning yesterday for two boys killed in a fire at their home. Investigators were checking a burned-out air conditioner for faulty wiring. Eight-year-old Elliot Watkiss and his brother Frankie, seven, were asleep in the first-floor bedroom of the family's house in Pat Heung Upper Village when the fire broke out shortly before 1am.
