Zeus right for Christmas cash

IT'S a decidedly tricky meeting for punters looking for last-minute Christmas cash at Sha Tin tomorrow night.

With this in mind it could be worth taking the odds that the Geoff Lane-trained Zeus is going to come good in the fifth event, the second leg of the Triple Trio.

Unlucky last throws up two to watch

THE last race yesterday produced a good winner - and unfortunate bleeder - in Supreme Monarch and two to mark down for the future. The run of third-placed Zeus was excellent and Able Monarch, who finished eighth, had no luck at all and the bare facts do not tell the story. Apprentice-ridden Zeus has put together two good runs now and is now ready to run a top race for trainer Geoff Lane.

Lane in favour with gods

GEOFF Lane can broach new ground by taking the final event at Sha Tin tonight with Zeus.

The Australian trainer is enjoying a vintage campaign and should Zeus oblige, as expected, he will record a personal best tally of 28 winners with nine meetings remaining.

Zeus arrived from Ireland last season having run three times as a two-year-old.

Star off course in opener

EASTERN STAR looked terribly unlucky not to take out the evening's first event at Sha Tin last night.

The race was won well by the Dean McKeown-ridden Zeus - another example of the English rider hugging the rails on his way to victory - but had Eastern Star kept a straight course or given any kind of assistance to Walter Swinburn then he would almost certainly have prevailed.
