Fairyoung rejects placement offers

Fairyoung Holdings has been approached to conduct a share placement but the company has no imminent plans to do so, according to chairman John Chan Boon Ning.

Speaking after the company's special general meeting, yesterday Mr Chan said a number of brokerages had expressed interest in handling share placements for the company.

Beijing Datang Power stations not damaged by earthquake

H-share Beijing Datang Power Generation Co says its power plants in Zhangjiakou and Xiahuayuan are not affected by the earthquake in the Zhangjiakou area in Hebei province on Saturday. The company said no damage was done to the plants and operations were not interrupted.

THREE Catholic clerics have been set free by Chinese authorities after they were detained by mainland police who wanted to stop them from meeting foreign dignitaries.

Informed sources said yesterday Bishop Su Zhimin of Baoding, Hebei Province, had returned home last Saturday.

Hebei projects search for foreign partners

ZHANGJIAKOU, an industrial city in Hebei province, has become the latest mainland city to come to Hongkong in search of cash.

The city's deputy party secretary, Mr Liu Jiansheng, said the city was seeking foreign backing for 172 projects at its trade fair in Wan Chai this week.
