Police smash Dongguan gang, kill two including hostage-taker

Guangdong police smashed a criminal group suspected of robbing and stealing vehicles in Dongguan , and shot dead one of its members who had held a woman hostage and asked for a car on Thursday, local media said.

According to the Shenzhen-based Jinbao, the four-member gang had committed several crimes in towns of Dongcheng, Houjie and Zhangmutou in recent months.

Police arrest 14 over fatal cafe fire in resort town

Police in Dongguan yesterday arrested 14 people in connection with a fire in a cafe last week that claimed 10 lives, local media reported.

Among those arrested was the cafe owner, surnamed Liao, the cafe manager, the owner of the building, an electrician, five waiters and five others whose identities were undisclosed.

The fire that killed 21 people in an apartment building in Zhejiang province on Wednesday was probably caused by faulty electrical wiring in a ground floor flower shop, mainland media said yesterday.

At least 10 killed in Dongguan cafe fire

At least 10 people have been killed in a fire that broke out at Ming Tien cafe in Zhangmutou, Dongguan, Guangdong province.

One person was seriously injured while six others were slightly hurt, Xinhua said last night. The fire broke out shortly after 5pm and firemen arrived at the scene five minutes later.

Estate deal in Dongguan

A COMPANY 50 per cent owned by Emperor International and 30 per cent by its chairman Sonny Yeung has agreed to develop 1.1 million sq ft of land in Zhangmutou, Dongguan, into a residential-commercial estate.

The development will include 100 villas and 20 multi-storey residential buildings, with complementary recreational and other facilities.
