Police in Chongqing have been hard pressed to clarify mounting rumours surrounding their gunning down of suspected multiple killer and serial robber Zhou Kehua .

Controversy about the case of Zhou, who was suspected of at least 10 murders during his eight years on the run, continues a week after Chongqing police shot him dead.

A massive manhunt for one of the nation's most wanted men ended yesterday when police shot him dead in Chongqing .

After eight years on the run, Zhou Kehua , 42, was killed in a mountainous district on the outskirts of the southwestern municipality, where he was believed to have been hiding after two separate killings on Friday that police linked to him.

Army joins police in hunt for killer in Chongqing

Zhou Kehua is known to have a habit of shooting his victims in the head.

Police have enlisted the help of the army in the hunt for one of the country's most wanted criminals, who is believed to have killed 11 people in eight years, including two last week.

Police have identified the suspect as Zhou Kehua , 42, from Chongqing .
